Mass media has a great influence on the type of consumers you find. These consumers brought together gives everyone a view of what sort of counter cultures and sub cultures there are. The game World of Warcraft, produced by gaming giant Blizzard, is a great example of mass culture. Within the game, players can not only take adventures throughout the large area, known as Azeroth, but they can also connect with people through the game. Chatting with the others within this game brings people from all over the earth together into one area to share their love for not only gaming, but for popular culture in general.
In addition Blizzard is also well known for parodying people and things from pop culture into their games. They have created several In-game characters poking fun and mimicking well known celebrities, cartoon characters, and movies.
ReplyDeleteLoL yes they are very good at that. I loved the quest called "A little help from my friends" where you had to help a Goblin named Ringo find his friends back at the base at Un'Goro Crater. The love is in the game, so for all you WoW haters, let it be.
ReplyDeleteWorld of Warcraft or WoW as some see it as is SADLY what I would call a subculture or a Mass Culture due to the fact that it is so popular. People are so obsessed with this video game! Seriously how intresting can it be to "battle" others and chat there has to be better things to do.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever even tried playing the game? Cuz if not...I can give you a 10 day trial slip...THEN you can knock it. You know how the modern population like to go to the clubs and get fucked up and spread STDs between each other? Well, this is how people come together to avoid shit like that. When you play the game with 30+ friends that you know in the real world, it makes the game 10 times better. But yeah...you obviously wouldn't know that since you had to ask how fun it was.
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question, it is very fun. The interaction between millions of people is phenomenal.
It is true, this game is about much more than Battles. It incorporates teamwork with other members heavily to achieve end-game content, it is a lot of planning and strategy as well. (think of it as a more intense game of chess) Also the game has it's own in-game economy, very similar to e-bay which draws the attention of people who love the idea of e-bay and buys cheap to sell for more.
ReplyDeleteYou know what's cool about the Auction House? They just released a mobile app so you can watch your auctions right from your phone. SO...that means I can make in-game money from my phone, without even playing the game at all. The economy part of the game has actually not only given me something to do in my off time between classes, but it has taught me how to manage my money and time throughout my life.
ReplyDeleteBefore the game, I was a very heavy spender who left little to no time for homework, because I just didn't care. Now, I enjoy money/time management.
