Commodity Fetishism - How It Rules Your Wallet and Social Behavior

There is not one person in the world who could say that these two girls are not a large part of the new craze of commodity fetishism.  They are portrayed to be innocent girls and beneath their plastic smiles lies a good amount of womanly potential, but that is not what the corporate wigs want you to know.  Corporations, such as Disney, have been exploiting the media for years to make money off of the audiences, whomever the media is aimed at, lining their overflowing pockets of money with even more, due to the ignorance America has settled into.

  1. This is so true. Commodity Fetishism is everywhere and when it comes to TV shows showing viewers objects they want or people they want to be like Disney for example is one of them. When thinking about Commodity Fetishism Disney channel never really came to mind till now, the channels that I thought of were more like HSN and the shopping network. When it comes to making money off audiences, producers and the shows in general tend to target children rather then adults. Like that of Disney channel, do you agree? Or is Disney channel the only channel that is exploiting audiences? And can it really be called exploiting if in the end the adult is actually buying the product for their child?

  2. I agree with the commodity fetishism view on this. I would almost consider this some what of binary opposition as well, at least in the beginning of her career, considering that Miley and Hannah are the same person but are portrayed differently. It is like a split personality, Hannah on one hand is a Pop star with all the glitz and glamor, where as Miley on the other hand was marketed as a down to earth normal school girl type.

  3. I agree with you Amanda, but the adults aren't the ones putting the images into these kids heads. Sure, the adults have some responsibility for what their children are purchasing (with the parents money) but in the end, the networks are still blasting the shit all over the television.

And...omg...it all makes sense now! Disney promotes schizophrenia! Lol

  4. I totally agree with what you think about Disney and the exploitation of young woman/men to portray "perfection", and to make big money off of them. It is almost disturbing how they present such characters like Hannah Montanna, who are snobby, mean spirited to their friends, and rude to parents, and yet they are who children idolize today. Because of this, Hannah Montanna sells countless albums to little girls, which results in the idea of "more, more, more" and parents buying everything from pillows to barbie dolls of Hannah Montanna.
